cHiking up from the valley to the mountains, the different vegetation zones encountered on the way are hardly noticeable because of the smooth transition from one zone to the next. Soil consistency, hillside location, and the local climate are determining factors for the growth of plants.

Land in the valley or hill area is mainly developed and cultivated. It is characterized by agriculture and cattle breeding. The mountain area with its characteristic forests follows the hill area. The mountainous region zone, also called sub-alpine zone which starts at the upper tree line and slowly transitions into the alpine zone, can be recognized by its many warped and crippled trees. Vegetation grows more and more sparse in the alpine zone, which ranges to the peaks of the mountains. The highest zone of the mountains, the nival zone, is the domain of glaciers and snow valleys with hardly any vegetation at all.
